Is There No Decency

I can accept a lot. And I have to admit I’m partly to blame for not always showing respect for the office when I should. But when the office is held by a man one can’t respect, a quandary is created. One I fall victim to. But my disrespect is directed. It has a target.

A target that in my opinion has earned every bit of ridicule that comes his way. I say this because I can no longer watch this narcissistic, self-serving, oblivious man show such disrespect to those who have earned the nation’s greatest respect and honors. Our service men and women. Our first responders.

It may not be his own little fingers creating the prompts that fabricate the memes. I doubt they are, I don’t believe he has the mental capacity to be that creative. But they are created and posted with his blessing and his giggles. Posted and reposted via his MAGA bots in East Asia and Africa.

When a cowardly draft dodger with made-up bone spurs has himself portrayed as a heroic five-star General, it makes me furious. I gave six years to the National Guard. My brother served and did a tour in Vietnam as a First Lieutenant. My father retired as a full bird Colonel. And watching a coward who deserted his staff and crawled away in a catering cart insult those who served, those who simply did their duty, is beyond what I can quietly absorb.

Forget those who died. Forget those who were captured, who spent years as prisoners of war. Trump has already weighed in on them, they were just losers. Forget those who came home carrying wounds nobody can see, who suffer from PTSD. Not the PTSD Trump suffers from missing a golf date. The real kind.

Portrayed as a five-star General patterned after Patton. Memes of him landing at Normandy. My God. Has this man no sense of dignity at all.

Then the memes of him as a first responder at 9/11, being cheered on by fellow first responders. What an insult to the real men and women who showed up, who dug through the rubble, some of whom died, some of whom are sick, and whom Congress can’t be bothered to help. But Second String Donny gets to fake his way into their story.

He isn’t content just being nothing. He has to tear everything good down to his level as well.

He thinks he will be remembered as a hero. Let him know we will do everything we can to just forget him.

Donald J. Trump. You have insulted and offended me and my family. And I would imagine you have insulted and offended just about every person who has ever served in the military, and every first responder, and every family that loves them.

Is there no decency?

It will take a generation for the stench to dissipate.
