It’s time to get ready to vote! 

The election is coming up fast. Here are my recommended steps to make sure you are ready to vote.  

1) Register: This is a great time to register to vote or make sure your voter registration is up to date. The voter registration deadline for the next election is October 13. It only takes a minute, and you can easily register, check, or update your information any time at oregonvotes.gov.

2) Research: Start researching your vote early. The Voters’ Pamphlet is an excellent resource. And here is the good news: your Voters’ Pamphlet be in the mail to you soon, and it’s already available online. Find it here.  

3) Return: Make your plan about how you are going to return your ballot. I recommend using a secure, official drop box. Soon, you’ll be able to find one by going to oregonvotes.gov/dropbox (This tool will be available by October 14 when ballots go out). It is still safe to use the mail to return your ballot, just plan to send it back at least one week before election day. 

Help us get the word out and make sure every eligible Oregonian’s vote gets counted this November. Share this information with your friends, neighbors, and family members.

THE STATE VOTERS’ PAMPHLET IS NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

The Oregon Secretary of State’s Office publishes a State Voters’ Pamphlet for every statewide election. The office sends one printed pamphlet to every home. Easy-to-use, accessible versions are available on this website, such as PDFs that work with screen readers so everyone can get the election information they need. 

• September 29: The State Voters’ Pamphlet will be available online. 

• October 5: The Online Audio Voters’ Guide will be available. 

• October 7 – 9: The official State Voters’ Pamphlet will be delivered to every residence address in Oregon. 

• October 9: The official translated State Voters’ Pamphlet and translated county voters’ pamphlets will be available online.

Supreme Court SAVE database decision

The Supreme Court, on September 25th, lifted restrictions on a federal voters database system called Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements, or SAVE, in their efforts to verify the eligibility of voters on their rolls. US District Court Judge Sparkle L. Sooknanan had blocked the use of the tool in June, saying it violated the American’s privacy rights and could result in voters being wrongly removed from the rolls. 

Secretary Read affirmed that this would have no impact on Oregon’s upcoming election. “Oregon will not participate in a flawed system that will likely result in eligible voters losing their right to vote. Voting is a right and we will continue to protect it for all eligible citizens.”
