Secretary Read: Supreme Court Ruling Will Have No Impact on Oregon’s Election

SALEM, OR — Today, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed a controversial federal database to be used for reviewing voter eligibility in this November’s general election. States can voluntarily send voter data to the federal government to be checked against the SAVE system, which has already been shown to have a high error rate.

Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read released the following statement:

“Today’s ruling by the Supreme Court will have no impact on Oregon’s upcoming election. Oregon will not participate in a flawed system that will likely result in eligible voters losing their right to vote. However, today demonstrates that President Trump and his administration will never stop trying to avoid accountability from voters. Voting is a right and we will continue to protect it for all eligible citizens.”
