Secretary Read: Ruling Reaffirms Oregon’s Vote-by-Mail Elections Will Proceed As Planned

SALEM, OR — Today, a federal judge extended a legal block against the U.S. Postal Service from implementing its rules that would illegally restrict vote-by-mail in the upcoming general election.

Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read is releasing the following statement:

“This is an important win, and it reaffirms that our secure, fair, accurate vote-by-mail elections will go forward as they always do. While this fight is not over, this preliminary injunction should give voters and elections officials more confidence; there is now another, stronger barrier between our elections and illegal interference from the federal government. It’s time for the federal government to realize they are not above the law and respect the Constitution and Oregonians’ right to determine how our elections are run.”
