If this is what you want, it’s what you got, sucker. 250 we celebrated, what did we celebrate. We have an educational system, we have schools, universities, home education, no longer are we raised in the fields picking cotton or tobacco while our mothers are raped.
We are the free and the mighty, so let me ask you a question, just what was the 250 year celebration about? Why were the fireworks set off, why did King Putz drone on?
Well it seems that if you ask the average American, over 50% of them will answer something like George Washington’s Birthday, The Civil War, or the day McDonald’s introduced the nineteen-cent hamburger. They don’t have a friggen clue.
No wonder we are in the poop circus we are in. Nobody knows what is going on and nobody really cares to know. It just makes me want to roll up my placards and go home, as if you would actually care.
The worse part isn’t just the ignorance, it’s the self-imposed ignorance. And I got a fresh reminder of exactly what that looks like, same day, different flag.
I had a friend, sadly the wrong side of the aisle from my point of view, send me a gif of political isms.
In political theory, “isms” represent canonical frameworks defining how societies should be governed. The 10 most prominent political ideologies are: Liberalism, Conservatism, Socialism, Communism, Libertarianism, Nationalism, Fascism, Anarchism, Authoritarianism, and Imperialism.
So I asked the friend — MAGA, Masters degree, the whole package — a simple question.
Me: so, if you were to be honest, which one applies to today?
Him: Capitalism has been a winner.
Me: we are talking about politics, our government, so let me rephrase the question. so, if you were to be honest, which one applies to today?
Him: You – liberal. Me – conservative. (Because I’m against Trump, I’ve apparently become a Communist.)
Me: Our Government, as in who is running the country, not you, not me. so, if you were to be honest, which one applies to today?
Him: Congress running the country.
Me: You just can’t do it, can you? Or I should say, you won’t do it. Trump has taken Congress’s ability to run the country away.
End of conversation, till the next morning, with another gif on state property taxes.
Is that forced ignorance? Or fear of admission? Would answering the question have been an admission he’s been wrong, and that’s just unacceptable, even to himself?
I don’t know. But what I do know is that we are living in a world created by that kind of mentality, and if it isn’t willing to go back to school, then maybe this is what we deserve. Another bust on Mt. Rushmore, paid for by, guess who?
And while I’m on it — who knows why we are celebrating 250 years — I can tell you who can and will answer that question with 100% accuracy, every single time you ask them. Repeat: every single time. Those who decided to become United States citizens. Those who went through the immigration process and took the tests and gained citizenship. They know why we celebrate 250 years of independence.
Meanwhile the home-born, the ones handed this country at birth, the ones who never had to sit for a test or prove they earned it — half of them can’t tell you what happened 250 years ago, let alone what’s happening right now.
We just handed them a democracy nobody bothered to study for.
